Barebones Tuner privacy policy

Effective September 21, 2026 · Applies to the Barebones Tuner iPhone and iPad app

Barebones Tuner uses the microphone to measure the pitch of the note you play. Microphone audio is analyzed in memory on your device while the app is active. It is not recorded, saved, or uploaded.

Information stored on your device

The app stores your tuner settings and tuning statistics on your device. Statistics can include tuning sessions, in-tune locks, average lock time, most-tuned note, and recent activity. No account is required.

Optional analytics and screen recordings

Sharing is off until you turn on “Share usage and screen recordings” in Tuning. If enabled, Mixpanel, PostHog, and Microsoft Clarity may receive app interactions, pseudonymous device or session identifiers, device and app details, and diagnostics. Screen recordings can include visible notes, frequency readings, tuner settings, and tuning statistics. They do not contain microphone audio.

We use this information to understand how the app works and where it fails. We do not use it for advertising or cross-company tracking. You can turn sharing off at any time in Tuning. Microphone permission is separate from this choice.

Service providers

Optional analytics are processed under the providers' policies: Mixpanel, PostHog, and Microsoft. Apple may provide app distribution, crash, and diagnostic information under your Apple settings and its own policies.

Retention and deletion

Local settings and statistics remain until you reset them or remove the app, subject to device backup behavior. Turning off sharing stops new optional analytics collection. To ask about data already processed by our providers, email us with enough detail to identify the relevant app and approximate dates. We will handle requests subject to provider capabilities and legal requirements.

Children and changes

The app is not designed to collect personal information from children. If the app's data practices change, this policy will be updated before the new practices apply.
